THE 7 DIMENSIONS OF WELL-BEING
There are seven dimensions of well-being. Although each dimension is important, you can start with any one of them to begin improving your life, wealth, happiness, and connection with God or your higher power. This is a brief overview. You will gain more information and insight as you continue to explore this website. Click on the menu boxes above to explore each of the dimensions in more detail.
We chose religious/spiritual well-being as the first dimension because it’s a great place to start. There is nothing worse than feeling that you are alone in this world, that no one can help you even though you may feel overwhelmed and helpless. Prayer connects you to God as each one of us understands Him. When we pray, we become connected to God. As we pray and ask God to guide us, one of the first answers is to seek more knowledge, which can mean reading and then connecting to people who can help you explore how to gain even more knowledge. If you follow the search for knowledge and understanding, it will lead you to reach out to others. Then you will come to realize that through the power of God you are actually connecting to others who also want to learn and grow.
Improved family connections lead to a sense of belonging and enjoyment of being together and growing together. Some people don’t actually have a family, but that can change. This can be the family you live with or your extended family. Sometimes people will choose to make an independent family of their own choosing. If you all live together, then a family can be created where each and every individual is valued, respected and appreciated. If you live alone, the religious community you join becomes your family over time.
Physical health is important. Getting as fit as you can without overdoing it provides significant benefits. Be realistic in your goals and dreams. Having an appropriate weight means eating appropriately so that you are not overweight or underweight. Appropriate diet is part of having physical health. Some of you may be ill and adjustments will need to be made to accommodate health limitations so that you can still enjoy life to the upmost of your ability.
Your social life includes your love life and getting the respect, love, and caring you crave for and desire. Your social life also includes friendship, being neighborly, and being a good sport in social situations while protecting your own healthy boundaries so they don’t get compromised. A good social life is important for many of us to help achieve total happiness and fulfilment.
Professional or work-related development is an important aspect of mental health for many people. We will explore how you can get the most out of your professional choices and how to improve your potential, growth, and enjoyment in your career. We will also discuss the importance of considering other career options when appropriate.
Financial health is important. Many therapeutic models ignore the value of gaining wealth and financial security, but clearly it’s an important factor for having a happy and healthy, worry-free life. Some say the love of money is the root of all evil. But that depends on what you do with your money. Paying off bills, buying a home, and creating wealth for your family usually brings satisfaction and joy. With wealth, you have the opportunity to donate to valuable causes and make a positive contribution to society.
Emotional health involves a healthy self-worth and being aware of your emotions and able to control them. This allows you to have the drive and motivation to get through challenges without being harmed by them. It includes knowing how to solve problems effectively, being able to get along with others, and knowing how to negotiate to get what you want and deserve without taking advantage of others.
